We have all been there. We were feeling someone and everything was cool and then boom you’re not sure what happened or what went wrong but you are now being ignored or even ghosted. I have said so many times and I will say it again. Match his energy. But I also know we are human and it is easier done than said. Shrimp fried rice is a favorite at my house and easy meal to whip up even on a weeknight. I wanted to share the recipe with y’all and a little tip I recently discovered. This recipe comes together quickly and uses basic ingredients but you can definitely turn it up a notch or two by adding specialty flavorings found at your local Asian market. Let’s cook!
1/4 cup of vegetable oil
1 package of medium size shrimp, peeled and deveined. I used larger shrimp for this particular recipe because I was serving it as a main course instead of a side dish
1/2 tsp of minced garlic
1/4 cup of onions (I used a shortcut, a bag of frozen onions cause I was too lazy to chop veggies)
2 cups cooked white rice
2 eggs lightly beaten
1 bag of frozen peas and carrots
1/2 tsb of sesame oil (this is optional but it gives it great flavor and is easy to find. I found mine in the Asian food section of Walmart)Ingredients
Began by heating the vegetable and sesame oil in a large skillet on medium high heat
Add the beaten eggs and lightly scramble. Then move eggs over to a cooler part of the pan.
Add frozen peas and carrots and sauté til warmed through. I also added the onion and garlic to the frozen veggies.
Add shrimp and cook. I seasoned my shrimp with a light sprinkle of soy and teriyaki sauce, garlic and onion powder and a dash of ground ginger and rice wine vinegar but season however you like just be careful with the soy sauce cause it will cause your dish to be salty and we will be adding some later.
After the shrimp are cooked thru add leftover COLD rice. This is the trick to good fried rice. Fresh or warm rice will just become mushy so this is the perfect recipe to use up those leftovers in the fridge. You can add whatever kind of frozen veggies you like and leftover chicken or make it strictly vegetarian. You can also make it low carb by using riced cauliflower just make sure it’s cold!
Now mix everything together and add soy sauce to taste. I usually only add a few dashes and let the kids add more if it isn’t enough for their taste buds.
Now you’re done and you have a very delicious meal or side dish and it’s easy, quick and budget friendly!
We like to eat ours with homemade egg rolls and this time we also added homemade crab rangoon.
Please let me know if you try this recipe and also what other recipes you’d like to see on the blog!!!
One of my main goals when it comes to buying clothes is to be able to wear the item in several ways. I had been wanting this cute shirt dress from NY and Company for a minute but it was either not on sale or not in stock. So when I finally visited my local mall and it was there and on sale for 50% off I figured I would snatch it up. A shirt dress is a wardrobe essential because it easy to wear, just add some accessories and it can be styles in several ways.
I personally thought of at least 3 ways I could wear it and plan to show you in upcoming blog posts. First up is the obvious way, as a dress! I paired this with some simple silver jewelry which I got from my Boo The Cost Conscious Fashionista who is also my sponsor on our Paparazzi jewelry team. Check out my $5 bling here. I also went with simple wedges I got from Just Fab. They are a dupe for the popular Marc Fisher wedges for a fraction of the cost. To join JustFab use my referral link here (I do earn rewards so you’ll be helping me bring more cute shoes to the blog! LOL). Easy, lightweight and a perfect look for summer. Stay tuned for more ways to wear this item!
Summer is here and you need quick and easy and light dishes to make with the BBQ or take to a cookout. Broccoli salad is the perfect addition!!! My kids love this and every time I’ve brought it to any gathering it’s gone!!! So make sure you give it a try this!
• 4-5 cups broccoli florets 1 lb, this was about 2 heads of broccoli for me
• 1 cup shredded mild cheddar cheese thicker
• 2/3 cup dried cranberries
• 1/2 cup crumbled bacon
• 1/4 cup of chopped pecans
• 1/3 cup red onion diced into small pieces (50g)
• 3/4 cup mayo
• 1 1/2 Tablespoon white vinegar and 2 Tablespoons of milk
• 3 Tablespoons sugar (40g)
• 1 packet of dry ranch dressing mix
1 Combine broccoli florets, cheddar cheese, dried cranberries, bacon, pecans, and onion in a large bowl.
2 In a separate, small bowl, whisk together mayo, vinegar, sugar, and dry ranch dressing mix until smooth and well-combined.
3 Pour dressing over broccoli combination and toss or stir well.
4 Serve. Keep refrigerated if not consuming right away.
I will be the first one to admit I wasn’t ready for this heat! As much as I complained about the cold weather I really wouldn’t mind it right about now! Yesterday in Houston the temps reached 100 degrees and if you have ever been here you know humidity made it feel even hotter. To prepare for these rising temperatures (cause it will only get hotter) I am wearing jumpsuits all summer and you should to.
The jumpsuit is a summer essential in my opinion because it’s easy to put on (until you have to go to the bathroom) and it’s an outfit you can put together in a hurry without much thought cause it’s all one piece. Just throw on your Paparazzi jewelry (shameless plug but check out our fabulous $5 jewelry here !) and some shoes and you are out the door in no time!
This one is from Forever 21 and the lightweight material makes it perfect for this heat. I am also in love with the color because it exemplifies the spicy seasoned woman!
I plan on getting the most out of my clothes so you will see me wearing this jumpsuit to work with a white shirt underneath since I work in a casual environment on a future OOTD (follow me on Instagram at Rickiloves to see) I could definitely see it with a cardigan too.
Look forward to seeing more jumpsuits on the blog cause I think I’m slightly obsessed.
Do you enjoy wearing jumpsuits or are they just too much of an inconvenience? Comment below.
If you know me then you know I enjoy changing up my look. As a seasoned woman variety is the spice of life and I love a lot of variety! However as a single mother of four my pocketbook doesn’t always agree with my need to change. That lead me to find inexpensive alternatives to these high cost bundles and frontals and the like and still be able to look good. I wanted to share some of the things I do to keep my look fresh but still seasoned.
First let’s talk about something real quick. As a 40 year old woman I in no way or shape want to be out here looking like a damn fool! All of my looks are fresh and fun but I am not trying to look like a 20 something (or anything else that I’m not). I don’t want to say I keep it age appropriate but in reality that is what I do. I work in a corporate environment and even though it is a relaxed office I would not feel comfortable or be taken seriously by sporting some wild hairstyle or some rainbow colors. Now if this is your thing by all means do it but as for me and my life, we will keep it real. That’s another thing… I am not against the 30 inch weaves falling down your butt, do you Boo!!! However, personally I like my hairstyles (for the most part cause I do have a moment here and there lol) to look believable not unbeweavable. I try to stick with natural colors and with textures close to my own natural hair. I am natural and one of the reasons I also wear wigs and weaves is to protect my hair and keep me from resorting back to the creamy crack.
Now that we got that out the way let’s talk about all this hair!
TIP #1 – Research! I never ever purchase a wig without looking up a review online first. I mostly search YouTube videos by putting in the search what I am looking for. For example, if I want to wear a curly style I will search curly synthetic wig. It is important to put synthetic so those types of wigs will show at the top of the search. If you’re trying to just get a new hairstyle or maybe even try a style before purchasing or attempting a more expensive version. Synthetic is the way to go. Companies have come a long way with how these wigs now look and I promise most of them look like real hair now. I also go to Youtube because I like to see how the wig came out of the box and if any manipulation is required to make this wig look natural. I will just tell you now, you will very rarely be able to wear a wig straight out of the package. You will need a reference to make it look like you want it to. Some ladies I follow on Youtube that you can check out to get an idea of how to wear these wigs are: The Brilliant Beauty, The Hearts and Cake90, Trendy Kay, Ms MuffinisMyLovers, Her Style, NaturalJoy & OhsoFashionable805. These ladies will give full reviews on the wig, show you how it came out the box and how to wear it. Here are some full wigs I have enjoyed in the past.
Same wig, middle part
Same wig, side part
TIP#2- Try a simple style. You don’t have to go big or go home when changing up your look. You can switch things up by adding a hair piece or using a half wig. When I am between hairstyles like sew ins or braids I will purchase a half wig to get me through! One of my favorites is the Outre Dominican Culy Half Wig which you can purchase here. Now I love big hair and this half wig can get very big but I tame it somewhat by wearing it in a half up/half down hairstyle. I even did a Youtube tutorial showing how I installed it on my natural hair. You can take a look here. Another simple way to make a change is to add a pony tail or braid. You can buy a drawstring ponytail from your local beauty supply for under $15 or get a pack of cheap braiding hair and make a braid. I love to use to wear the halo braid which I learned how to do by watching a simple tutorial on you guessed it, Youtube!
TIP#3 – Have fun with your hair. Sometimes as seasoned women we take ourselves a little too seriously. It’s okay to play around and try different looks and hair and makeup is one of the easiest ways to accomplish this. Get out of your style rut and try something different. It doesn’t have to be a drastic change as I stated before but a new look can have you feeling like a million bucks. I also suggest if there is a hairstyle or hair color you have been thinking about trying try it in a temporary form first. A wig is a great way to try out a color without making a commitment or even damaging your hair.
TIP#4 – Set a budget. A little here and there can add up quickly. I try to set a budget when I am purchasing wigs and I always search the internet for the best deals. I will tell you now it is almost always cheaper to buy on a wig website instead or your local beauty supply store BUT it is even better when you’re buying in bulk you also get free shipping. I usually do my research and buy a variety of wigs (usually 2-3) at a time. Here are some of the sites I like to purchase from:
These are reputable sights with fast shipping available and I can always find something within my budget.
Another budget friendly look you can do yourself that lasts a little longer than wigs is crochet braid styles. I love crochet styles and they have some a LONG way from the 90s when we first started wearing them. Take a look below on some of the styles I have worn.
The main thing I want you seasoned ladies to take from this post is that it is never too late to reinvent yourself and you don’t have to do something like cut your hair. You can just get a new wig and become a new you!!!
Now let me know in the comments if you would try some of these looks!
I am going to make this post short and sweet. As a mother of four I do thoroughly enjoy Mother’s Day. I even bought this dress specifically to celebrate the holiday but as I have become more seasoned and experienced life changes I now understand that Mother’s Day can be a hurtful holiday for some. Of course celebrate the mothers in your life or your own motherhood but keep in mind our sisters who may be experiencing a not so good time. As we approach Mother’s Day I want us to remember these things.

Also, be sure to remember to be sensitive to those who may have lost the people that celebrated them as mothers (i.e. spouse).
Just remember even if it means nothing to you, it may mean everything to them.
